Description

A hopeful young pastor leaves his comfortable Chicago pulpit behind, boarding a French liner bound for a continent engulfed in war. Driven by a lofty belief in universal brotherhood, he joins a mixed crowd of soldiers, scholars, and adventure‑seekers, each hoping to play a part in the historic conflict. The narrative opens with his reflections on pacifism, duty, and the ideal that humanity might emerge from the carnage united.

Upon reaching the battle‑scarred fields of France, he is thrust into the gritty reality of ambulance work, tending to wounded soldiers of every nationality. The vivid illustrations of front‑line hospitals, gas‑stricken men, and relentless artillery fire bring his internal struggle to life as his lofty ideals clash with the brutal truths of war. Listeners will travel with him through the early months of the Great War, witnessing how a man of peace confronts the harshness of a world still at war.
