Description

In the heat of a desperate World War I assault, a small group of American infantrymen find themselves pinned on the edge of a forest, facing a relentless wave of German troops. The opening scenes plunge listeners into the grim reality of trench warfare—grimy faces, shattered rifles, and the deafening crack of guns as the boys exchange fire with the enemy. When the bugle sounds, the men fix bayonets and launch a ferocious charge that erupts into a chaotic melee of close‑quarters combat.

As the melee intensifies, individual acts of bravery flash through the smoke—bayonets thrust, rifles turned into makeshift clubs, and a sudden fist strike that saves a comrade from a lethal blow. The narrative captures the raw fear and fierce loyalty that bind these young soldiers, illustrating how quickly a firefight can turn into a brutal hand‑to‑hand struggle. Listeners are left with the echo of shouted commands and the lingering question of what lies beyond this brutal stand.
