Description

Anna is a lanky seventeen‑year‑old with striking grey eyes and hair her friends call chestnut brown. On a bright August afternoon on Prince Edward Island she settles on a red‑sandstone step, attempting to translate verses of Virgil, though the whispering wind and buzzing insects pull her thoughts toward daydreams instead. The quiet countryside, with its misty fields and red‑hued garden, frames her restless imagination and hints at a future that might be shaped by more than schoolbooks.

Her world shifts when the new neighbour, Mr. Harrison, arrives in a dramatic, almost theatrical manner, his stern demeanor immediately sparking gossip among the villagers. Anna, curious and unsettled, finds herself drawn into his orbit, confronting both his blunt opinions and the whispers of the local women. Meanwhile, at Avonlea School, a charismatic new teacher begins to stir ambitions in the town’s youth, offering Anna a glimpse of possibilities beyond her current routine. As the season turns, Anna stands at the crossroads of friendship, duty, and the promise of adventure.
