In the harsh foothills of the Bad Lands, a daring outlaw named Red Rogers bursts from prison, leaving a trail of dead men and a promise to a dying gang mate. He returns to the places of his early crimes, hunting for a hidden cache that will fulfill his pledge, while a conflicted young woman, Rose Landon, slips between loyalty and remorse. Their uneasy alliance draws the attention of both the law and the desperate, setting a fast‑moving chase into motion.
Meanwhile, a trio of Mounted Scouts—veterans Jennings and Shaw and an eager rookie—wake to a strange night cry that could be a trap or a warning. Ordered by Colonel Edwards to watch each other closely, the three riders grapple with rivalry, suspicion, and the ever‑present threat of outlaws who seem to be one step ahead. As the mystery signal echoes through the darkness, the stage is set for a tense pursuit that will test every man's resolve.

Best known for early 20th-century Western adventure stories, this elusive pulp-era writer is remembered today mainly through public-domain reprints and archival collections. Very little biographical information appears to have survived, which gives the work an added air of mystery.
