In a bustling Persian town two brothers inherit only a modest share of their father's meager estate. While Kasim quickly secures wealth through a fortunate marriage, Ali Baba remains a humble woodcutter, eking out a living with three donkeys and a sack of chopped firewood. One afternoon, while hauling his load through the forest, he spots a distant cloud of dust that reveals a massive cavalry approaching the hill where he works.

From his perch in a tall tree, Ali Baba watches the riders dismount, strip their horses of saddles, and pile sacks onto the beasts before the leader opens a hidden cavern with the words “Sesam, aukene!” Intrigued, Ali Baba follows the phrase himself, stepping into a bright, cavernous storehouse brimming with silk, spices, piles of gold and silver, and countless priceless treasures. Overcome by the sight, he quietly gathers as much loot as his three donkeys can bear, concealing the riches before slipping back to the forest, his life forever altered by the secret he has uncovered.
