Ali Baba en de veertig roovers (Verhaal uit de Duizend en een Nacht)

In a bustling town on Persia’s edge, two brothers inherit a modest fortune and part ways as fate would have it. Casim marries into wealth, quickly rising among the city’s elite, while Ali Baba lives humbly, earning a living by chopping wood and hauling it on his three donkeys. One day, while in the forest, Ali Baba spots a cloud of riders descending a sheer cliff, their armor glinting in the sun. He hides in a dense tree, watching the strangers tie their horses, unload grain, and carry heavy bags that hint at stolen treasure.

From his concealed perch, Ali Baba hears the leader utter a strange command—“Sesam, open you!”—and a massive stone door swings inward, revealing a glittering cavern filled with gold and silver. The phrase lodges in his mind, and the promise of hidden riches sparks both wonder and unease. As the robbers retreat, Ali Baba must decide whether to risk his safety and test the mysterious words that could change his life forever.
