Description

Tom Raymond and Jack Parmly are two inseparable friends from a quiet Virginian town, bound together by a shared fascination for the sky. When Tom’s inventive father arranges for him to attend a fledgling flight school, the boys trade schoolbooks for canvas and rivets, eager to test the limits of a rickety biplane. Their conversations are peppered with the thrill of altitude, the hum of the engine, and a growing sense that their newfound skills could soon be called upon beyond the training field.

They soon learn that the distant conflict in Europe is turning the sky into a new battlefield, and the fledgling Lafayette Escadrille beckons American volunteers willing to fly for France. With a mixture of patriotic zeal and youthful bravado, they prepare to leave home, carrying with them the hopes of families who have long answered the call to arms. The story captures the raw excitement of early aviation, the risks of soaring into uncharted war zones, and the bond that keeps the two friends steady as they chase the horizon.
