Description

In the oppressive heat of an Indian night, two strangers huddle in a dim hut, their breaths shallow as the first light of dawn threatens to seal their fate. Dr. Anstice, a calm and measured man, clutches a watch while Miss Hilda Ryder, pale and trembling, recounts the terror of the temple that captured them. Their conversation is a fragile dance of hope and dread, each word a desperate attempt to hold onto a promise that could mean the difference between a quick death and something far worse.

Bound by a pledge made in the shadows, they try to imagine a world beyond the looming gunfire, recalling the carefree picnic that seemed a lifetime ago. As the night deepens, the silence outside the hut grows louder, and the pair must confront the terrifying uncertainty of who—or what—awaits them when the sun finally rises. Their resolve will be tested, and every whispered reassurance becomes a lifeline in the gathering darkness.
