Description

Set in the luminous world of Heian‑era aristocracy, the tale follows Genji, a privileged but illegitimate son of the emperor, as he navigates a maze of courtly duties and forbidden passions. From his youthful betrothal to the proud Lady Aoi to fleeting affairs with women such as the wistful Rokujō and the enigmatic Suyetsumu, the narrative captures the delicate balance between public expectation and private longing.

The third installment opens after an eight‑year silence that has seen Genji’s death, shifting the focus to the next generation of his lineage. Kaoru, a contemplative young man believed to be Genji’s son, begins to emerge, while his half‑brother Niou, born of the Akashi Princess, adds a fresh strand of intrigue. As these heirs confront their inherited reputations and the lingering shadows of their ancestor’s affairs, the story unfolds with the same elegant observation of love, duty, and the fleeting nature of beauty.
