Description

In a cramped London lodging‑house, a determined widow who once worked as a nurse struggles to keep her small world afloat. She lives with her bright‑eyed ten‑year‑old daughter, Mavis, whose curiosity about the street outside mirrors the uncertainty that shadows their modest home. When a letter arrives offering a well‑paid nursing position for a wealthy young lady afflicted with consumption, the mother sees a chance to secure their future, even though it means leaving the familiar streets of England.

Accepting the post will carry her far to Australia, a prospect that terrifies Mavis and threatens to tear the pair apart. Their heartfelt conversation reveals a deep bond forged by hardship, faith, and the hope that providence will guide them through separation. As they grapple with the looming departure, the story gently explores themes of sacrifice, resilience, and the quiet strength found in a mother's love, inviting listeners to share in their journey toward brighter days.
