Description

In the fortified town of Lőcse, a series of enigmatic portraits of a woman in white dominate ancient walls and hidden chambers. Each image—rendered in fresco, oil, and painted wood—shows the same striking figure, her gaze fixed on an unseen horizon, her hand either beckoning or turning a key. The townsfolk whisper that she is the “White Lady,” a symbol of betrayal and sacrifice, her name forever tied to the nation’s darkest accusations.

When a young scholar discovers forgotten documents and personal letters tucked behind the paintings, he becomes obsessed with uncovering the truth behind the legend. His research pulls him into a tangled web of family histories, forgotten rebellions, and the lingering echo of a woman whose actions have been mythologized for generations. As he pieces together the clues, the line between myth and reality begins to blur, promising a compelling journey into memory, honor, and the cost of a single choice.

Mór Jókai

1825–1904

A towering figure in 19th-century Hungarian literature, he wrote sweeping, adventurous novels and plays that made him one of his country’s most beloved storytellers. His life was just as dramatic as his fiction, shaped by politics, journalism, and the revolutionary spirit of 1848.
