Description

A quiet coastal village becomes the backdrop for a determined young woman and her ailing little brother, who are about to set sail on a modest sloop despite the town’s doubts about a girl in a fisher’s role. Elise, nineteen, has grown up beside the sea, learning every rope and tide from her missing father, and now she sees this herring fishery as the only chance to keep her brother safe and provide a steady future. Their departure is tinged with both hope and the weight of recent loss, as they cling to memories of a mother who died long ago and a father who vanished beneath the waves.

The narrative follows their preparations, the careful negotiations with a skeptical skipper, and the bond that fuels Elise’s resolve to protect Firmin. Listeners will feel the salty air, hear the distant gulls, and share in the quiet bravery of two siblings who dare to chart their own course against tradition and the unforgiving sea.
