Description

In a modest schoolroom in Sussex, the quick‑witted but restless Reuben Whitney finds himself scapegoated for a shattered window, his defiant cries echoing against a cane‑wielding master. The accusation sets him on a path far from the English countryside, as his family seeks a fresh start in the rugged Australian bush where lawlessness and danger loom large. Early on, Reuben glimpses the stark contrast between the orderly world he knows and the untamed frontier that will test his courage.

Arriving on a cramped ship, Reuby’s fortunes shift when he encounters the notorious bush rangers and the native peoples whose lands the settlers are carving into. A tense trial and a daring escape thrust him into a volatile mix of gratitude, gale‑blown seas, and unexpected alliances. As he learns the harsh rhythms of life on the outback, the young boy must decide whether to become a survivor or a hero in a land where every choice carries weight.
