About the author

Born in Pomerania on December 22, 1862, he came to the United States as a child and later studied at Concordia College in Fort Wayne and Concordia Seminary in St. Louis. He served Lutheran congregations in places including Missouri, Baltimore, New York City, and Milwaukee, and became a well-known figure in English-language Lutheran circles.

Alongside parish work, he wrote extensively. Library and archival records show a wide range of books under his name, including church history, biographies of religious figures, biblical works, and My Life, a memoir described as the personal recollections of a Lutheran missionary, pastor, churchman, lecturer, and author.

He died on February 2, 1952. Remembered as both a church leader and a tireless author, he helped preserve and share Lutheran history for generations of readers.
