About the author

Before he was known onstage, Will M. Cressy worked at a remarkable range of jobs, including carpenter, machinist, marine engineer, watchmaker, traveling salesman, and hotel clerk. That wide experience fed the humor and observation that later shaped both his performances and his writing.

Cressy became a successful American vaudeville actor, comedian, writer, and playwright. He was especially associated with rural comedy and with the popular act he performed alongside his wife, Blanche Dayne, a partnership that helped make them a well-known team in vaudeville.

For readers today, he is best remembered for Continuous Vaudeville, a memoir-like account of life in the theater world he knew so well. It captures the pace, color, and practical realities of touring entertainment from someone who lived it from the inside.
