Will M. (Will Martin) Cressy

Before he became known to readers, he built a career in American vaudeville as an actor, comedian, writer, and playwright. Born in Bradford, New Hampshire, in 1863, he was part of the fast-moving world of popular stage entertainment and later drew on that experience in his books.

He is especially remembered for Continuous Vaudeville (1914), a lively account of the performers, routines, and culture of the vaudeville circuit. He also wrote The Hills o' Hampshire and collaborated on stage work, bringing a performer's eye and comic timing to the page.
