About the author

Born as Viktor Robert Niemi in Luumäki on March 27, 1870, he became known as Vihtori Niemi and was part of a family whose name had originally been Hirviniemi. He spent an important part of his life in Kristiinankaupunki, where he gained notice both as a Finnish nationalist voice and as a supporter of the temperance movement.

Niemi was a Finnish playwright, journalist, and editor. He served as the responsible editor of Suupohjan Kaiku, later known as Suupohjan Sanomat, and also founded and edited Kaskisten Lehti. Alongside his newspaper work, he wrote plays, and library and catalog records identify him especially as a dramatist.
