About the author

Born in Luumäki on March 27, 1870, and later active mainly in Kristinestad, Vihtori Niemi was a Finnish playwright, editor, and publisher. Library authority records identify him as Viktor (Vihtori) Robert Niemi, and note that he worked as both a dramatist and journalist.

He is remembered not only for his plays but also for his role in the press. Niemi served as responsible editor of Suupohjan Kaiku around 1900–1901, then went on to found Kaskisten Lehti, which later continued under the name Etelä-Pohjanmaa. Contemporary summaries describe him as a Finnish-minded public figure and a temperance advocate, and those values also appeared in many of his plays.

His known works include titles such as Mikkelin kekkerit, Juomalakko, Lukkarin arkityöt, and the children's play Joulukuusi. He died in Kristinestad on April 21, 1910, only 40 years old, but left behind a body of writing and newspaper work that kept his name in Finnish literary and local press history.
