About the author

Born in 1907 and active through the mid-20th century, Sidney Licht built a career that combined medicine, scholarship, and publishing. He became known as an early pioneer in physical medicine and rehabilitation, writing and editing books and articles that helped define the field while it was still taking shape.

His influence reached beyond clinical practice. Sources on rehabilitation medicine and occupational therapy describe him as a longtime supporter of occupational therapy, a historian of the profession, and a voice for stronger educational standards and better evidence for treatment. He was also associated with major academic collections and medical-literature work later in life, reflecting his deep interest in preserving and organizing the history of medicine.

Licht died in 1979. He is still remembered in rehabilitation circles for the breadth of his writing and for helping build the intellectual foundation of a young specialty.
