About the author

Born in Bavaria in 1821, Sebastian Kneipp was ordained as a Catholic priest and later became widely known for his use of hydrotherapy. Accounts of his life describe how, after struggling with illness as a young man, he became interested in water-based treatments and began developing the approach that would later be called the "Kneipp Cure."

Kneipp worked for many years in Bad Wörishofen, where people came to seek his advice and treatment. His method combined applications of water with attention to exercise, diet, herbs, and balanced daily living, and it helped make him an important early figure in the naturopathic movement.

He died in 1897, but his name has remained closely linked with wellness traditions in Germany and beyond. Parks, spas, and health centers still reflect the influence of his ideas, especially the use of cold water walking and other simple therapeutic routines.
