About the author

Born in Bavaria in 1821, Sebastian Kneipp grew up in modest circumstances and originally trained for the priesthood after working as a weaver. He became a Catholic priest, but he is best known for developing a system of healing centered on water treatments, an idea he pursued after experiencing serious illness in his youth.

Kneipp went on to promote what became known as the "Kneipp Cure," combining hydrotherapy with exercise, simple living, and the use of herbs. His work attracted wide attention in Bad Wörishofen, where people came to seek his treatments, and he became one of the best-known early figures in naturopathy.

He died in 1897, but his influence lasted well beyond his lifetime. Today, his name remains associated with spa culture, natural healing, and a holistic view of health that connected body, habits, and everyday life.
