Robert Louis Stevenson

Robert Louis Stevenson (1850–1894) was a Scottish novelist, poet, essayist, and travel writer, born and educated in Edinburgh. He is best known for Treasure Island, Kidnapped, Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, and the poetry collection A Child’s Garden of Verses.

Despite serious health problems throughout much of his life, Stevenson wrote prolifically and traveled widely. His journeys, literary friendships, and fascination with distant places shaped his vivid sense of adventure and atmosphere.

In 1890, he settled in Samoa, where he became known as “Tusitala,” or “Teller of Tales.” He died there in 1894 at the age of 44 and was buried on Mount Vaea, overlooking the island.
