Born Amy Key in Plymouth on April 17, 1853, she wrote under the name Mrs. Henry Clarke. She became known as an English author of historical fiction and children's books, and reference sources also describe her as an educator.
She published widely in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with titles including The Bushranger's Secret, Miss Merivale's Mistake, and Black Will. Some accounts note that she began publishing young, and modern readers still come across her work through library archives and reprints.
She died on March 4, 1908. Though not as famous now as some of her contemporaries, she remains an appealing figure for readers who enjoy rediscovering Victorian popular fiction, especially stories written for younger audiences and historical adventures.
