Born in Campanet, Mallorca, on May 4, 1864, Miquel dels Sants Oliver i Tolrà became a prominent writer, journalist, historian, and public thinker. He studied law at the University of Barcelona, but literature and journalism became the center of his career.

Oliver worked across several genres, writing poetry, narrative, essays, and historical pieces, and he is especially remembered for his journalism. He directed major newspapers including the Diario de Barcelona and La Vanguardia, and he was also associated with the cultural and political life of Catalan regionalism. His writing is often noted for combining intellectual seriousness with a clear, lively style.

Deeply tied to both Mallorca and Barcelona, he became an important figure in Catalan cultural life and was a founding member of the Institut d'Estudis Catalans. He died in Barcelona on January 9, 1920, leaving behind a body of work that reflects the literary energy and civic debates of his time.
