Maude Mary Butler (1858–1933) was an author associated with children’s literature. Her surviving bibliography includes A Soldier’s Son, which is available through Project Gutenberg, as well as Violette: A Story of Seeking and Finding and The Story of Little Hal and the Golden Gate.
A catalog of children’s books also records The Rightful Daughter, or, The Two Lights of Fennlytton, published by Jarrold & Sons in 1896, and identifies Butler as the author of Paul: A Little Mediator. These titles suggest a focus on young readers and stories shaped by perseverance, family, and faith.
Little biographical information about Butler has been preserved, but her books remain a window into the values and storytelling traditions of children’s fiction in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
