Born William Lacey Amy in Sydenham, Ontario, on June 9, 1877, he wrote under the pen name Luke Allan. He became known as a Canadian journalist and writer of western and mystery fiction.

Early in his career, he worked at the Medicine Hat Times as a reporter, then later as its editor and owner. That newspaper background helped shape the direct, lively storytelling style that carried through his fiction.

He is especially remembered for his Blue Pete tales, a long-running series tied to the Canadian West. Amy died on November 26, 1962, and remains a notable early popular writer whose adventure stories helped bring western and crime fiction to a wide readership.
