About the author

Born in Alavus on August 3, 1881, Lauri Edvard Perälä was a Finnish schoolteacher, lay preacher, writer, and politician. He represented the Agrarian League in the Parliament of Finland from 1919 to 1924, and his public life seems to have stayed closely connected to the countryside and ordinary working people.

His writing is linked with the same world he knew firsthand: education, religion, and rural society. Project Gutenberg lists a number of his works, including 64 päivää suomalaisen siirtokansan keskuudessa Amerikassa, showing that his books also reached beyond Finland to the lives of Finnish emigrant communities.

Perälä died in Virrat on April 5, 1942. Even in a short biographical record, he stands out as a figure who moved between teaching, public service, and literature, bringing practical experience and a strong sense of community into his work.
