About the author

Before focusing on writing, Kate Innes trained as an archaeologist and worked in museum education. Reliable author biographies also note that she taught in Zimbabwe and later settled in Shropshire, where local history and the natural world have helped inspire her work.

She writes across several forms, including poetry, historical fiction, and fiction for younger readers. She is the author of the medieval Arrowsmith Trilogy, and her books also include Greencoats for children, along with poetry collections such as Flocks of Words.

Her background helps explain the feel of her writing: it is often rooted in the past, attentive to landscape, and interested in the stories places can hold. Alongside her books, she has also been recognized in poetry competitions and has built a body of work that reaches both adult and younger readers.
