Born in Biñan, Laguna, José N. Sevilla was a Filipino writer associated with Tagalog literature and folklore. Sources describe him as a folklorist, novelist, dramatist, and grammarian, and list his life as spanning 1880 to 1946.

Biographical notes available online say he studied under Epifanio del Castillo and took part in the struggle against Spain under Gregorio del Pilar before turning his attention more fully to literature during the American period.
