About the author

Born in La Selva del Camp, Catalonia, on February 5, 1882, he became one of the most notable Catalan writers of his generation. He is widely remembered as a playwright and novelist, and also took part in political life during the years of the Spanish Republic.

His writing moved between theater and prose, often exploring clashes between individual desire, social pressure, and political conviction. Among his best-known works are Aigües encantades, first published in 1908, and Camins de França, published in 1934 and often described as his prose masterpiece.

The later part of his life was marked by exile in France after the Spanish Civil War. He died in Paris on February 2, 1956, leaving behind a body of work closely tied to the cultural and political history of modern Catalonia.
