About the author

Born on January 5, 1858, Gustaf af Geijerstam was a Swedish novelist, dramatist, journalist, and public debater. He was associated with the literary world around August Strindberg, and his writing often focused on social questions and personal relationships.

During his lifetime, many of his books were translated into German, which helped build his reputation outside Sweden. One of his best-known works, Äktenskapets komedi from 1898, attracted attention from the poet Rainer Maria Rilke, who wrote warmly about it.

Although only a small part of his work appeared in English, Geijerstam remained an important figure in Swedish literature around the turn of the 20th century. He died in Stockholm on March 6, 1909.
