About the author

Gordon Stiles (d. 1930) was an American journalist and short-story writer whose life ranged from foreign correspondence to wartime service. He worked for the Chicago Daily News and, during World War I, joined the British Army and was assigned to the Royal Air Corps. Writer Ben Hecht later remembered him as a “dashing, demobilized flying ace.”

After the war, Stiles contributed fiction to magazines including Argosy All-Story Weekly, Munsey’s, and Young’s Realistic Stories. His 1928 adventure novel Silver Bird’s Flight, originally published by the Frank A. Munsey Company, follows an air pilot drawn into a dangerous conspiracy. Stiles died in a car accident near Warwick, New York, in 1930.
