About the author

Born on June 5, 1864, in Schney near Lichtenfels and later active in Nuremberg, he worked as a writer, editor, translator, and city council figure. Biographical records describe him as having trained in basket making before traveling through northwestern Europe, experiences that came before his turn toward journalism and public life.

From 1886 onward he was connected with the Fränkische Tagespost, and he also served in Nuremberg’s city administration as a municipal representative from 1908 to 1919. Several reference sources describe him as a chronicler of the Nuremberg workers’ movement, and also as a local or regional author who translated from English, French, and Dutch.

He died in Nuremberg on July 9, 1939. The surviving reference entries confirm his importance as a socially engaged man of letters, but they offer only limited personal detail, so the picture that remains is mainly of a hardworking journalist and author closely tied to the civic and cultural life of his city.
