About the author

Garret Smith was an American journalist and science fiction writer who lived from 1878 to 1954. He is chiefly remembered for short fiction and serialized novels published in pulp magazines, especially Argosy.

Much of his work appeared during the early magazine age of science fiction and adventure fiction, when readers often discovered new stories in weekly or monthly installments. During his lifetime, one of his serialized novels was published as a book, Between Worlds (1929), helping preserve his work beyond the magazine pages where it first appeared.

Today, Smith is mainly of interest to readers who enjoy early speculative fiction, lost-world tales, and the lively storytelling style of the pulp era. His career connects journalism with the energetic, idea-driven popular fiction that helped shape early American science fiction.
