About the author

Born Arthur Charles Rock de Fabeck on 30 May 1866, he became known professionally as Charles Rock and built a career on the British stage before appearing in silent films. He died in London on 12 July 1919.

Alongside acting, he wrote and adapted theatrical work. He is especially associated with The Ghost of Jerry Bundler, a one-act stage adaptation of W. W. Jacobs's story Jerry Bundler, first produced in 1902 and later published in 1908.

For audiobook listeners, Charles Rock is an interesting figure because his writing grew directly out of performance. His work carries the feel of the theatre—compact, lively, and shaped for dramatic effect.
