Born in Warsaw on November 22, 1855, Cecylia Niewiadomska was a Polish teacher, translator, writer, and educational activist. She spent her life working in education and literature, with a strong focus on making reading accessible and engaging for children and young people.

She became especially known for translating the fairy tales of Hans Christian Andersen, helping generations of Polish readers discover those stories in their own language. Alongside her translation work, she also wrote and adapted books that supported learning and introduced younger audiences to literature.

Niewiadomska died in Warsaw on June 12, 1925. She is remembered as one of the literary figures who quietly shaped children’s reading culture in Poland through teaching, translation, and popular educational writing.
