Born in Guagua, Pampanga, Aurelio Tolentino was a Filipino playwright, poet, journalist, and revolutionary writer whose work became closely tied to the struggle against colonial rule. He is especially remembered as one of the major figures in early modern Filipino drama.
Tolentino wrote in Kapampangan and Tagalog, and his plays were known for their nationalist energy. His most famous work, Kahapon, Ngayon at Bukas, became widely known for its bold political message and for the controversy it stirred during the American colonial period.
Beyond the theater, he also worked in journalism and remained active in public life. Today he is remembered not only for his literary talent, but for using writing and performance as a way to defend freedom and national dignity.
