About the author

Born in Rantasalmi on January 2, 1872, Aapo Pärnänen was a Finnish elementary-school teacher and writer. Sources identify him as Abel (Aapo) Pärnänen, and note that he died in Helsinki in 1955.

Alongside his teaching work, he published writing that included plays and other books in Finnish. He is especially remembered for writing the lyrics to the Christmas song Köyhän lapsen joulukuusi, which was set to music by the teacher J. N. Vainio.

Although detailed biographical information appears limited in the sources found, the available record suggests a writer whose literary work was closely tied to education and everyday Finnish life.
