About the author

A. van der Flier, listed in library records as Alida and dated 1860–1920, was a Dutch author whose known publications span both fiction and nonfiction. The Digital Library for Dutch Literature records her books In den strijd. Herinneringen van een Transvaalschen jongen (1900) and Overwonnen door geweld (1905), and Project Gutenberg also lists Toen de duisternis dreigde... among her works.

DBNL also preserves a number of her shorter pieces from the 1890s and 1900s, showing a wider range than her novels alone might suggest. She wrote articles on stained glass, gobelins, and bells, as well as later pieces such as Schetsen uit de jeugd van prins Willem III and Israëlietische vertelkunst, which points to a strong interest in history, religion, and the arts.

Some catalog records connect her with the name Alida van Redichem, but the available sources in this search do not make every biographical detail fully clear. Even so, the record that remains is of a versatile early-20th-century Dutch writer who combined historical imagination with a clear curiosity about art and culture.
