About the author

A. Teunisse is credited on Project Gutenberg as the author of De nuttige handwerken: handboekje ten dienste der lagere school, written with A. M. van der Velden. The surviving edition available there is a fourth revised printing from Amsterdam, published in 1903 by W. Versluys.

From the book itself, Teunisse appears to have been one of its "schrijfsters"—women writers or compilers—working to support classroom teaching in useful handcrafts. In their preface, the authors explain that the book was meant to save time in class and give pupils clearer written guidance and illustrations, especially for knitting.

Very little biographical information about Teunisse seems easy to confirm from readily available sources today. What does come through clearly is her role in an early practical teaching tradition: creating straightforward instructional material for lower-school students and helping turn handwork into a more organized part of everyday education.
