The story opens on the sprawling Yölintu estate, a landmark so familiar that its name erupts from every corner of the nearby village. Young master Jaakko von Toll, nicknamed “Yölintu,” rides through fields while women shout his name in excitement, children squeal in the yard, and even the elder farmhands mutter about the looming sound of gunfire. This restless chorus hints at a community caught between age‑old rituals and an unseen danger that threatens to upend their routine.
Within the manor’s walls, three sisters—Amalia Karolina, Fredrika Lovisa, and Anna—are presented as hauntingly beautiful, their porcelain features and mute grace reflecting the stern upbringing of their mother, Mathilda. When their brother Karl Jakob Magnus finally arrives, his fiery red hair and fierce eyes mark him as a force of will, promising both pride and discord for the family. As a scorching summer approaches, the villagers gather for a mandatory fieldwork, and a sudden, ominous tremor ripples through the countryside, leaving everyone to wonder what lies beyond the next horizon.
