Description

In the gentle countryside of early‑19th‑century England, the Bennet family juggles the hopes of five lively sisters whose future hinges on advantageous marriages. When the affluent and affable Mr. Bingley arrives at the nearby estate of Netherfield, the local social scene buzzes with excitement, and his handsome, reserved friend Mr. Darcy makes a striking, if aloof, entrance at the Meryton ball.

Elizabeth Bennet, the second‑eldest sister, meets Darcy’s proud demeanor with quick wit and a keen eye for hypocrisy. Their first encounter sets the stage for a lively dance of misunderstanding, as both characters cling to their initial judgments while the world around them presses toward courtship and propriety.

Austen’s sharp, sparkling prose captures the rhythms of village life, the subtleties of conversation, and the ever‑present tension between genuine affection and societal expectation. Listeners will find a story that balances humor with insight, inviting them to reconsider the ways pride and prejudice shape our own first impressions.

Jane Austen

1775–1817

Wry, observant, and quietly radical, these novels turned the small dramas of family life, money, and marriage into enduring literature. Her six completed books still feel fresh because they understand people so well.
