Description

Around the tranquil waters of West Lake, the winding Ge Ridge rises, a place whispered to be the training ground of a legendary Daoist. The tale follows Ge Hong, a destitute orphan who, despite lacking books, spent years copying and studying ancient scrolls, eventually becoming a respected scholar. His quiet devotion to the Way keeps him aloof from worldly ambition, preferring the serenity of mountains and the subtle lessons they hold.

One day the local governor Bao Xuan, intrigued by Ge Hong’s composure, visits the ridge and is persuaded by a diviner that the young man possesses extraordinary virtue. Bao arranges a marriage between his daughter and Ge Hong, drawing the scholar into courtly life while he continues to pursue inner cultivation. When the empire calls for a campaign against bandits, Ge Hong offers counsel rooted in compassion and strategic insight, hinting at a future where his moral philosophy may guide both peace and power.
