Description

In a dimly lit wood‑chopper’s hut on the edge of a forest, the glow of a fire fights the night’s chill while a sliver of moonlight frames a view of a distant cathedral. Inside, two brothers—Steen, a restless nine‑year‑old, and Holger, his slightly older, thoughtful sibling— wrestle with disappointment and fear as the town’s Christmas celebrations pass them by. Their simple world is painted with warm colors of clothing and the humble furnishings of a peasant household, yet an uneasy tension crackles beneath their chatter.

When a lone figure kneels in the snow beyond the window, raising a silent prayer, the boys’ curiosity turns to dread. The sudden arrival of Uncle Bertel, a jovial, robust figure, breaks the silence, offering both comfort and a hint of hidden danger. Listeners are drawn into a night where superstition, family bonds, and the whisper of unseen threats intertwine, promising a compelling glimpse into medieval life and the mysteries that linger at its borders.
