Description

A band of eager mid‑nineteenth‑century naval cadets sets sail from the United States to navigate the wild coastlines of Norway, Sweden and Denmark. Their voyage doubles as a vivid travelogue, offering listeners a lively picture of towering fjords, bustling ports and the everyday customs of the peoples they encounter. The narrative weaves factual observations of geography and history into the boys’ lively banter, turning mere description into an engaging adventure.

Early in the journey the squadron rescues a young Norwegian waif drifting in the North Sea, sparking a friendship that guides the crew through hidden waterways and lively market towns. A parallel thread follows a pampered English lad whose over‑indulgence leads to comic mishaps aboard the second cutter. As the boys explore Copenhagen’s Tivoli gardens and glide up the Göta Canal, their growing camaraderie and fresh eyes turn each stop into a lesson in culture, bravery and the bittersweet taste of youthful independence.
