Description

A crisp autumn afternoon finds Georgiana alone in the quiet rooms of her family’s old manse, the fire crackling and the scent of apple wood filling the air. She has set the finest china, laid delicate sandwiches, and waited for the arrival of five former classmates, who roll up in a gleaming limousine and flood the house with laughter and old jokes. Their presence revives the carefree spirit of their college days, yet the polished veneer masks a growing sense of unease.

As the ladies settle in, conversation turns to the paths they have chosen—society galas, settlement work abroad, impending marriage—while their questions probe Georgiana’s own life, her solitary care for an ailing father, and the possibility of romance in the countryside. Beneath the polite tea ritual, she feels a sharp tug between affection for her friends and the sting of their unspoken judgments. Listeners are invited into this delicate dance of loyalty, longing, and the quiet courage required to face one’s own expectations.
