Description

Red Pepper Burns is the larger‑than‑life physician who runs the one‑stop shop of medicine, quick wit, and occasional temper in a sleepy Midwestern town. When a reckless driver bursts onto his driveway, the whole community pauses to wonder what crisis has set his famously fiery friend into such a hurry. Burns’ brusque bedside manner masks a deep loyalty to his neighbors, and his home office becomes a stage for sharp banter, stubborn habits, and the odd mix of medical remedies and mechanical tinkering.

The story opens with Burns’ old friend Arthur Chester trying to pry a secret from him, only to be met with curt replies and a reluctant invitation to share a simple dinner. As the evening unfolds, listeners get a vivid portrait of a man whose reputation as “the pepperest proposition of an angel” is both a joke and a warning. The narrative sets the tone for a quirky, character‑driven tale that balances humor, small‑town intrigue, and the stubborn stubbornness of a man who never quite lets his guard down.
