MAY MORNING AND NEW YEAR'S EVE.
THE BIRTHDAY.
A TRUE STORY.
On the eve of May Day, a village bursts into preparations for a celebration of music, wreaths, and a children's procession. Mrs. Chilton reads Milton’s spring verses, inspiring boys and girls to picture bright mornings despite looming clouds. Lizzy Evans is chosen as May queen and Frank as king, ready to lead the festivity.
When the sun finally shines, the children set off with baskets, flageolets, and drums, eager to gather wildflowers in the woods. A sudden shower forces them into an old barn, where they improvise a wobbly milk stool for the queen’s throne and a hollow barrel for the king. Laughter soon replaces the drizzle as they display their blooms and share a simple dinner.
The tale celebrates community spirit and the resilience of childhood imagination. Listeners will hear rustling leaves, youthful music, and feel the joy of turning a rainy May morning into a heartfelt celebration of friendship.
