Description

A moonlit cavalry rush sweeps across a hushed Polish plain, the riders—Wolodyjowski, his devoted companion Zagloba, and the steadfast Rzendzian—bearing urgent news for the hidden princess Helena. Their urgent conversation weaves together rumors of the missing noble Skrzetuski, a looming conflict with marauding forces, and a fragile hope that the princess has not been abandoned. The opening paints a vivid picture of war‑torn lands, loyal friendships, and the tension of a kingdom on the brink of upheaval.

As the riders pause for a brief rest, the night deepens, stars flicker, and their whispered promises hint at a daring rescue mission that could change the balance of power. Through the characters’ voices, listeners sense both the personal stakes—Helena’s yearning for salvation—and the broader struggle for a kingdom’s future. This first act sets a tone of restless determination, blending historical intrigue with the timeless quest to protect those we love.
