Description

In this breezy, slang‑spiced tale we follow Torchy, a quick‑witted narrator, and his ever‑curious friend Vee as they tumble through the cramped, humming streets of early‑twentieth‑century New York. Their banter crackles with humor while they chase after a mysterious engraved card, a forgotten candy‑jar order, and the tangled love story of Lucy Lee and Captain Blake. The city itself becomes a character, its narrow streets and fog‑shrouded apartments offering a vivid backdrop for their impromptu investigation.

As Torchy and Vee set off for a modest dinner at the charming Café Bretone, they drift toward the Blake residence on Umpty Umpt Street, a modest brick building tucked between lofty tenements. Along the way they encounter nosy landlords, bustling courtyards, and the everyday drama of city dwellers coping with cramped rooms and rising rents. Their playful curiosity promises plenty of lively encounters and light‑hearted mischief before any serious twists unfold.
