CHAPTER VI - UNPLEASANT NEWS
Tom is leafing through a curious magazine when a sketch of a hidden idol and a tattered map catches his eye, sparking a restless longing for adventure. He shares the find with his best friend Ned, and the two quickly recall Professor Swyington Bumper—a daring scientist they once rescued from danger on a river steamer. When Bumper arrives with a promise of an expedition into the Honduran jungle, Tom’s imagination ignites, and he can’t resist the pull of a quest that smells of ancient legends and untouched treasure.
The trio soon sets out for the dense, uncharted wilds, guided only by the cryptic map and a handful of local rumors about a “little green god” and a cursed idol of gold. Along the way they encounter rival hunters, hidden traps, and the first hints of a mysterious underground cavern that seems to guard the very secret they seek. As the jungle’s secrets begin to surface, Tom’s ingenuity and Ned’s steady optimism keep the group moving forward, even as danger lurks in every shadow.
