Description

A rugged riverside camp awakens to the clatter of incoming troops, their arrival announced by a cheeky postcard full of exaggerated weather and mutiny jokes. In the dim winter weeks, a wiry veteran named Jeb keeps the lonely outpost running while a frail, determined boy named Raymond endures the cold, huddling in a cabin that feels both like a sanctuary and a battlefield of its own. Their conversations weave legends of past skirmishes, grizzly encounters, and the odd camaraderie that lets a grizzled hand shake a child’s toward the promise of summer.

As the Hudson waters draw new arrivals toward the camp’s bustling center, the rhythm of the river mirrors the growing tension between the old men’s hard‑won wisdom and the fresh optimism of the youngsters. With supplies, stories, and a looming sense of adventure hanging in the air, the first act sets a vivid stage where friendship, survival, and the echo of historic conflicts shape the lives of those gathered on the riverbank.
