Description

Fans of the great consulting detective will find a fresh mystery that begins with an urgent visit from a former prime minister and a European affairs secretary. A vital paper has vanished from Holmes’s private safe, and the two statesmen fear its contents could tip the balance between war and peace. As Holmes questions servants, schedules, and alibis, his methodical reasoning turns a seemingly simple theft into a tangled web of secrecy and intrigue.

The episode opens the collection, which also contains a handful of other curious cases: a set of Napoleon portraits that conceal a clue, three university students caught up in a baffling scheme, the chilling murder at Abbey Grange, a missing footballer whose disappearance hints at a larger racket, golden spectacles that hide a forgery, and the cunning blackmailer Charles Augustus Milverton returning to challenge Holmes once more. Together these stories showcase Doyle’s blend of sharp observation, atmospheric London settings, and the occasional mischievous twist that keeps listeners turning the page.
